Over the weekend of December 9th and 10th, KTP Athletics, and the North Bay Badminton Team hosted Northern Ontario's first-ever, Black Knight Jr B series provincial-level badminton tournament.
The Black Knight Jr B series is the first level of competition for juniors in Ontario, of the seven hosted across the province, this is the only one to find itself in Northern Ontario. This tournament drew on 110 athletes from Ottawa, Timmins, Elliot Lake, Sudbury, Toronto and Windsor for two days of competition.
Organizer, Kurt Tempelmans Plat found that the event ran very smoothly.
"I was nervous at first as I was not exactly sure how long it would take to run the event, and my one concern was running out of time. That said, we ended up running ahead of schedule all weekend, so all-in-all, it went over very well," he stated.
The North Bay Badminton Team found itself being the second largest team in attendance at the event, bringing 14 athletes. For many on the team, it was their first time competing in a tournament of this level. Overall, the team saw some great success and was able to secure it's first medals at the provincial Jr B level, bringing home three medals in total. Special shout out Dillon Laberge who earned himself two silver medals and one bronze medal.
KTP Athletics will also be hosting an Open tournament on January 5-6 in North Bay, all skill levels are welcome to compete in Men's and Women's Singles, Men's and Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles. To learn more, visit www.ktpathletics.com.
