On Saturday, December 14th, Twenty-one (21) FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics teams will gather at West Ferris Secondary School to battle for top honors and a chance to advance to the East Provincial FIRST LEGO League Challenge Championship in January.
This marks the 10th Annual North Bay FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifying Tournament, proudly hosted by FIRST Team 1305. Over the past three months, students from Team 1305 have dedicated their time to mentoring FLL students and their teams.
More than 200 kids, aged 9 to 14, along with over 50 student, parent, and teacher mentors, will come together at West Ferris Secondary School. Teams from Burks Falls, Callander, Manitoulin Island, Sudbury, and beyond will participate in this exciting event.
This year’s FLL Challenge theme is “Submerged.” Teams of up to 10 students will design and build autonomous LEGO robots using LEGO Spike Prime kits to complete themed “missions” on a competition table. Alongside their robotics work, teams will tackle a project focused on solving real-world problems related to the "Submerged" theme, presenting their solutions to a panel of judges.
In addition to technical challenges, teams are evaluated on how well they demonstrate FIRST Core Values:
-
Discovery: Exploring new skills and ideas.
-
Innovation: Using creativity and persistence to solve problems.
-
Impact: Applying what they learn to improve the world.
-
Inclusion: Embracing differences and respecting each other.
-
Teamwork: Recognizing strength in collaboration.
-
Fun: Celebrating their achievements with enthusiasm!
The event is FREE and open to the public.
