A pair of area high schools have teamed up to pay tribute to a well known student who passed away last year.

Chippewa and West Ferris Secondary Schools in partnership with the Lyons family have teamed up to run a friendly co-ed hockey tournament between the North Bay North Stars, Chippewa SS and West Ferris SS.

Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Jack Lyons Autism Summer Camps fund held by One Kids Place.

Jack Lyons and his father Mark, worked tirelessly as local advocates for autism awareness.

The event is happening on Wednesday, April 26 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay.

The games will involve West Ferris and Chippewa teams taking on the North Stars special hockey team that Jack played for and his father has coached.

"We anticipate both grade 7 and 8 populations from the two high schools will be in attendance numbering approximately 600 students,” a release stated.

"Jack Lyons was a Chippewa student who became an integral part of the Chippewa community. Additionally, Jack was an avid hockey supporter and a huge fan of the North Bay Battalion and Powassan Voodoos. His passing last year affected many in our community.

"Lesley Lyons, Jack’s mom, is an educator at West Ferris so it will be nice to be able to bring both communities together for this event.”

The event is being run by Jenna Wilson, a grade 12 student from Chippewa who held close ties with Jack and is currently in the grade 12 leadership course at Chippewa.
