Seven gymnasts from North Bay Gymtrix represented the club with some exceptional performances at the Muskoka Limberettes Gymnastics competition January 19-21st.
Hitting the podium with two gold medal performances was 17-year-old Tessa Tripodi. Tripodi earned the top of the podium on the vault and balance beam in the level 7 age 17/18-year-old category.
Teammate Keala Wright impressed the judges with her near-flawless floor exercise routine. She received one of the highest scores of the weekend, a 9.7 (out of 10), and was the crowned Floor Exercise Champion in the Level 6 age 15 division.
New to the Provincial Stream competition was Level 6 Madeline Degagne, who performed a beautiful balance beam routine to earn a bronze medal in the 13-year-old age group.
Kali Champagne, who moved up to Level 8 this season, claimed the bronze medal on the floor exercise.
Younger sister Rylee Champagne was 5th on the uneven bars in the Level 6 age 12 group.
In the Xcel Gold division, Jaidyn Guitard (Age 14 group) came away with the bronze medal on the vault, and 11-year-old Brynn Edmunds (Age 11-13 group) had a pair of 5th place finished on the uneven bars and floor exercise.
"I was impressed by the efforts put forth by all of the girls," said head coach Tara Alger "They had some exceptional performances, especially being our first competition of the season. The highlight of the weekend for me was watching Keala's performance on the floor exercise. It's such a beautiful routine, one of those routines everyone stops to watch. You can tell she loves what she's doing and is having fun while doing it. As a coach, that's extremely important to me, sport should be fun first - the score of 9.7 and a gold medal is the cherry on top!"
The girls will join 10 new competing Gymtrix gymnasts in Niagara Falls on February 16-19th.
