Former Trapper Lefebvre signs with Petes

‘We are excited to have committed these players to the Peterborough Petes’

He may have been a late round draft pick, but that didn't stop Chase Lefebvre from making the OHL.

Peterborough Petes General Manager, Michael Oke, announced on Sunday that three players, including former North Bay AAA Trappers forward Chase Lefebvre, have been signed to an OHL Standard Player Agreement.

Lefebvre was selected in the 15th round, 295th overall, by the Petes in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. Lefebvre registered 66 points in 46 games for the French River Rapids of the NOJHL in 2021-22 as he was chasing the league scoring title for most of the season.

For Lefebvre, this was likely his last Petes camp to make an impression.

When asked about the new signings, Petes General Manager, Michael Oke, commented: “At the beginning of training camp, we told the players that all players invited to camp had a chance to make this team and these three players took advantage of that opportunity," said the longtime Petes GM.

"We are excited to have committed these players to the Peterborough Petes.”

Scott Huycke, president of the North Bay & District Trappers AAA association, and Lefebvre's former coach, was thrilled when he heard the good news.

"I am very happy for Chase in having the opportunity to sign with Peterborough," he said.

"Chase has worked extremely hard at growing as a player and I wish all the best this coming season and beyond."

Lefebvre becomes the fifth North Bay area player to start the 2022-23 season on an OHL roster including Masen Wray (Hamilton Bulldogs), Pacey Schlueting (Saginaw Spirit), Connor Punnett (Barrie Colts), and Ben Gaudreau (Sarnia Sting).
