Former North Bay Battalion star Nick Paul has been called up by the Ottawa Senators, the club announced today as the team prepares to face the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight in Ottawa.

Paul, is playing his first year of pro hockey with the Senators American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, NY.

This is the first career call up for Paul, 20, who has recorded six goals and 11 assists in 43 games during his first professional season with the B-Sens.

Paul told Ranjan Rupal in a BayToday.ca Holiday Fireside Chat feature that he is working hard at making the adjustment from major junior to pro.

"I think the first part of the season was little bit of a learning curve, getting used to everything, being a rookie on a team again, skating and confidence," said Paul back in December.

"But the thing here is working every day, getting better every single day, whether it’s in the gym or on the ice."

The 6-4, 230-pound native of Mississauga, Ont., was acquired by the Senators along with Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill and a 2015 second-round draft pick (which was later traded to New Jersey to ultimately draft prospect Gabriel Gagné) in exchange for Jason Spezza and Ludwig Karlsson on 7/1/14.

Paul played three seasons with the Battalion, including two in North Bay.

In his final year in 2014-15 he registered 37 goals and 29 assists for 66 points in 58 regular season games.

Of course Paul’s highlight last year was capturing a Gold Medal with Canada’s World Junior Hockey team.
