Nipissing University Lakers Amanda Carvalho will be honoured at the forth annual Ontario University Athletics Women of Influence Luncheon on Thursday November 30, 2006 at 12pm at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The event honours female student-athletes that have excelled in their chosen sports and fields of study.
Amanda Carvalho is a fourth year midfielder studying English with intensions of pursuing a Masters degree in the fall of 2007. Fluent in three languages, English, Portuguese and Spanish, she has been the recipient of the President’s Scholarship at Nipissing University for the past four years.
Aside from striving for excellence in the classroom, Amanda works just as hard on the field pushing herself to learn new skills, challenging herself as well as her team-mates, all while maintaining a positive outlook. Amanda has a terrific sense of humor, is very bright, personable and caring. In order to encourage girls to learn the sport of soccer and to follow their dreams, Amanda volunteers as a soccer coach and assists in soccer camps during the summer and winter months. Amanda believes that young girls, if given the opportunity to play, can make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others by fostering discipline, respect for others, teamwork, and high self-esteem.
