St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears win 27th NDA title.

Maddox Gedanitz scored the dramatic overtime winner for the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears as they edged Chippewa 5-4 in extra time to win the NDA hockey title at West Ferris Arena on Thursday night.

The win allows the Bears to win the best-of-three final 2 games to 1.

Austin O'Shell provided three goals in regulation for the Bears while Justin Bouffard added a single.

Bears goaltender Carson Berry was solid, keeping his team in the game.

Hayden Casey had two goals for Chippewa, while Gavin Thibodeau and Ben Mason added singles for the Chippewa squad that won the opening game of the series after knocking off the Algonquin Barons in the semi-finals.

The game did include a scary incident, as Chippewa defenceman Grayson Bradley was hit from behind by a Bears player and knocked unconscious after going into the hard West Ferris arena boards.

There was a delay as an ambulance was called to take Bradley to the North Bay Regional Health Centre where he was treated, released and diagnosed with a concussion.

The Bears' victory coincides with the team's 90th season of hockey, which started in the fall of 1934 as they take home their 27th NDA Nugget Shield.

The Bears are led behind the bench by head coach Tyler Miller, assistant coaches Dylan Staples, Devan Turcotte, and Mario Chitaroni.

The Bears hockey team consists of Noah Backer. Brennan Bertoncello, Carson Berry, Colton Booth, Justin Bouffard, Lucas Caciagli Rocha, Sidney Comeau, Maddox Gedanitz, Hunter Goulais, Cameron Grainger, Seth Grawbarger, Will Hanselman, Charlie Hayne, Ashton Millette, Austin Oshell, Jack Oshell-Szczygiel, Jackson Rivet, Hudson Landry, and Ryan Clark.

The two teams will return to the ice in North Bay next week for NOSSA hockey championships.
