March 22, 1936, to June 26, 2024

Beloved Wife and Sparring Partner of Phil (deceased 2016), Loved and Cherished Mom to Jennifer (Wayne) of Ajax, David (predeceased 2018), Lynne of North Bay and Heather (Murray) of Powassan. Loved Nanny to Shannon (Chris) of Scarborough and Tegan (Dylan) of Ajax. Great Nanny to Ares, whom she would have been delighted to know.

Norma will be reunited with her sisters Marion (Bob), Ginny (Virginia) (Burleigh) and will be missed by Joan (Stan deceased) and Kathy (Joe) and many nieces and nephews.

Norma followed her husband from Ontario to BC in 1966 and back to Ontario in 1976 and back to BC again in 1994 for their final move as Phil retired. Mom was a constant at the Granisle Seniors Centre (old Fart’s Club) from 1994 until 2019 when Lynne brought her back to Ontario for the final time.

She was known for her baking, especially her buns and Christmas pudding. She and her sister Ginny (Virginia Lloyd) ran the kitchen for many years with the other wonderful volunteers at the centre while Phil and Burleigh ran amuck.

She leaves behind her best friends Carrie Kinney and Senga Gardiner, cherished Nephew Wayne Weston (Pam) and her chosen Son Lawrence (Shirley) in Granisle. We are so thankful she had you in her life the last 2 years she lived in Granisle after Dad died.

Her health started to fail after losing her hubby in 2016, but she insisted on staying in BC despite our best efforts to get her home with us. After David died, Norma started a long agonizing journey into the abyss that is Alzheimer’s, losing more of herself and our family memories as each day ticked by.

We cared for her as she once did for us, at home, until March 2021, with the loving assistance of Jean St. Pierre, whose kindness will never be forgotten. In March 2021, she was reluctantly moved to Eastholme in Powassan.

In her final year, she lived mainly in her past, on the Family Farm and talked about her Grandpa and Dad. We saw glints of our Mom every once in a while, sad and difficult on us, as her daughters, but she was Happy in the world she was living in. WE Knew Her and that was all that mattered.

Mom called Eastholme home from 2021 to the end. We would like to thank the North 3 Staff, who lovingly called her Momma and shared in our grief at her loss.

Between Norma’s daily antics of creatively “borrowing” anything she could get her hands on, to her back rubs and forehead touches, we know she will be remembered by everyone who came in contact with her. We Are Eternally Grateful for you ALL!

In the end, she was surrounded by the Love of her Girls, who were supported by their angels as they walked the final days of this Long Goodbye.

We Love You Mom. Until We Meet Again xoxoxo

Cremation has taken place, and she will be interred with our Dad at a later date. Donations to the Eastholme Residence Council Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society will be gratefully acknowledged by the Family.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to McGuinty Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
