The family announces the peaceful passing of Lorraine at North Bay Regional Health Centre on March 9, 2022, at the age of 91 years. Beloved wife of the late Edward ”Coke” Watters. Loving mother of Maureen (Christopher) Barnard of the United Kingdom. Cherished grandmother to Emily and Katherine, and loving Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind one sister, Marjory (Doyle). Lorraine was predeceased by her parents John and Eulala (nee Flynn) Curran, her sister Eleanore Lee, brother Paul Curran, and brother Rev. Hugh Curran.
As a young women Lorraine graduated from Toronto’s St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. After graduation Lorraine headed to work in Houston Texas for a few years, then to North Bay where she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, for about a year. She then moved on to Wawa, and Sudbury before finally settling back in North Bay and St. Joseph’s hospital where she worked as a highly regarded O.R. nurse. Lorraine left nursing in 1965 to become a full-time mom.
In her spare time Lorraine loved spending her time outdoors. She was an avid swimmer and walker. She loved walking so much that it was nothing for her to walk from one end of North Bay and back again “just to stretch her legs” as she would say. She also loved to play cards, especially bridge, and was a part of many different bridge groups.
The family will receive visitors at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Saturday August 6, 2022, between the hours of 11am and 1pm. A celebration of Lorraine’s life will follow at 1pm in the McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
