Susan Van Der Rassel
1957-2024
With heavy heart to announce the passing of Susan Van Der Rassel who passed away peacefully at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
Loving mother of Ishmael Van Der Rassel (son). Predeceased by her parents Marion Miller (mother), Jan Van Der Rassel (father), Darlene Van Der Rassel (sister) and Robert Van Der Rassel (brother). Loving Aunt of Hollee Hume.
Susan was a dedicated and long time community representative and volunteer within North Bay serving on various boards, committees, fundraising including the Capitol Centre Board of Directors, Advisory Board for the WKP Kennedy Gallery, Canadore College’s Indigenous Education Council and many more etc.
Susan knew the value of giving back to the community and always wanted to be there for the people and to see how she can make a difference including for the most vulnerable. From 2019-2022, Susan served as President of the North Bay Métis Council with focus on advocating for the Métis community and recognition of the Métis culture, history etc.
Proud alumni of Canadore College, Susan graduated with academic honours in Canadore College’s Indigenous Wellness and Addictions Prevention, Social Service Worker and Mental Health and Addictions Program etc.
Susan will be greatly missed by her son, family and many members of the community and always will be remembered for always a giving hand to various organizations and people within North Bay.
In lieu of flowers, Susan’s family is asking for donations to be made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice or EVE (Ending Violence Everywhere) organization that advocates for the survivors and victims of intimate partner violence, gender based violence and family violence.
