January 7, 1935- October 31, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grace Stewart at Water’s Edge Care Community on Thursday October 31, 2024 at the age of 89.
She left us to join her beloved partner of 45 years, Tom Birmingham and her children Grant, Lorraine, John, Larry and her first husband John Arthur Stewart.
Grace was the loving mother of Gary Stewart, Charlene Pasichnyk (Bob), Koren Harris (Regan-predeceased), Belinda Holliday (John) and Bonnie Miller. She will be sadly missed her 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Rita Collins and her siblings Jean Villeneuve, Betty Anne Trecartin, Walter, Fred, Samuel and Jimmy Collins.
Grace worked for many years at the North Bay Nugget as a sorter and did housekeeping for Beatties Printing, the North Bay Nugget and Dr. Bowers all while raising her 9 children.
Our mother suffered from dementia for several years and was in Cedar Lodge and A1 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre for a year and then transferred to Water’s Edge Care Community for the last 8 months.
I would love to thank all that came into my mom’s life while she struggled with dementia. The great nurses and personal support workers Laura Chowns, Jennifer Edworthy and Jennifer Lalande, just to name a few.
Big thank you also to Sally, Allan and Kim Birmingham, Kim Cole and Bruce Miller - who were the exceptional support and help for our mom and dad throughout the years.
She will be missed by all who crossed her path in her life time.
The feisty woman who if you touched her feet, would let you know about it and given choice words, kicks and swings. She loved listening to her country music. You could hear her coming with the music playing on her phone and her singing along and tapping her hands and bobbing her head.
Although your smile is gone and your hand we cannot touch, we still have so many memories of the one we loved so much. So when you see that butterfly, remember I am watching over you and am never far away.
Don’t remember me with sadness or tears, remember all the laughter we’ve shared throughout the years. Now I am content that my life was worthwhile, knowing that I passed along the way, I made someone smile and touched so many hearts. When you are walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind, I’m walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind. So please don’t be unhappy, just because I’m out of sight, look for a butterfly; and remember me morning, noon and night.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 16th at 1pm at North Bay Union Cemetery.
