Her family announces with sadness the passing of Gwen Simpson (nee Evans) at North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday March 19th 2023 in her 97th year. Dearly loved mother of Deb (Treat Hull) and grandmother of Evan Simpson-Hull (Meaghan Stranack) and sister Dianne (John Hopper). Predeceased by Alan, her beloved husband of 61 years, sister of the late Gail Ross and the late William Evans.
Her family and friends will greatly miss her vitality, boundless energy and the enthusiasm with which she approached life. Retired from North Bay Civic Hospital, she loved playing the piano her entire life, writing poetry, cooking and gardening. With Al, she enjoyed many years at the family cottage at Lake Timiskaming entertaining friends and family and travelling extensively to many countries. She was a devoted volunteer at St Andrews Church, North Bay Civic Hospital and the IODE.
The family would like to thank Dr. R. Trenker for his compassionate support throughout Gwen’s later years, the CCAC and ParaMed staff and the staff at Cedar Lodge at North Bay Regional Hospital for their conscientious care. Gwen was fortunate to live independently for a decade at Marina Point with the help of caring staff. At Gwen’s request there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in early summer at Victoria Harbour Union Cemetery.
