It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Darren Simms on February 7, 2025, at the young age of 58, peacefully surrounded by his family at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
Darren was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, the youngest child of his late parents Victor and Juliette Simms. Darren leaves behind a legacy as a devoted fan in the local sports world that will never be forgotten. Darren touched the lives of so many and he took immense pride in being a good hearted, and generous person and a friend. Above all,
Darren’s greatest joy in life was his family. Survived by his siblings, Carol Morin (Fred), Paul Simms (Tammy), Larry Simms (Kim), Rose Susan Olm (Grant). Predeceased by his siblings Robert Simms, and Debbie Walker. Survived by his nieces and nephews Jamie Simms, Kyla Giguère (Francis), Crystal Dale (Josh), Robert Morin, Ally Belanger, Justin Simms (Kat), Melissa Hodgson (Derek), Rebecca Bartholomew (Dan), Katie Schuh (Matt), Troy Simms, Jeff Simms, Maple Docherty, and his many great nieces and nephews. Also survived by his beloved aunt Jeanne Knight and his cousin October Knight.
Darren was at his happiest when he was with his family as they were with him. He was a wonderful brother and uncle with a pure heart and soul.
In the community, Darren was a member of the North Bay Special Olympics team where he met many of his close friends. He was also very happily involved in the NorthStars Hockey team and was an avid fan of the North Bay Battalion, Lakers Hockey, North Bay Trappers, and Northland wrestling to name a few. Darren’s number one team, however, will always be the Montreal Canadiens.
We will always remember Darren for the beautiful and kind person he was, always so generous and loving. He impacted so many and will be greatly missed. We would like to send our deepest thanks to the staff at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice. They did so much more than just provide immense care to Darren and the family during this tough time. They organized Darren’s last outing to a North Bay Battalion game where he was greeted with such kindness and generosity.
Darren’s Celebration of Life will be at the Memorial Gardens in the north hallway on Saturday March 1st from 1-4pm. Refreshments will be provided, and guests are welcome to wear their favourite sports jersey in Darren’s honour. We welcome anyone that would like to come with open arms and hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nipissing Serenety Hospice will be greatly appreciated.
