Ramsey, James Douglas
Gone to be with his beloved wife, Margaret Ellen (Thompson), James Douglas Ramsey (born October 3, 1930, in Guelph, ON), died peacefully on August 18, 2023, in Cambridge, Ontario. On this day, he was surrounded by his favourite classical music and his children.
James was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Caroline; his brothers, Tom (Margaret) and Charles (Nancy); his grandson, Nicholas Klassen; and his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Ellen, Susan (David), Jonathan (Marie) and Jennifer (Curtis); grandchildren, Erin (Joe), Richard and Greg (Manpreet); and his great-grandchildren, Amelia and Saiya.
James was a passionate educator. He was a tenured professor of the Faculty of Education at North Bay Teacher’s College/Nipissing University from 1966 -1987. He was also the director of the North Bay Chorale Society, director of the North Bay Baytones, past president of North Bay Toastmasters, and served as the director of music at various Anglican churches in Windsor and North Bay. James was a devout Christian and was proud to use his talents to serve in the many Anglican Churches of which he was a member. James was also a member of the North Bay Masonic Lodge No. 617 A.F. & A.M., G.R.C. He served as a Past Master of the Lodge and as Chapter and Preceptory organist. Jim readily found ways to be involved in the community. During his spare time, Jim and his wife were drivers for Meals on Wheels. He was also an avid gardener and was pleased when his gardens were included on the gardening tour one year. Finally, he spent much time working to perfect his golf skills, often at the North Bay Golf and Country Club, Pinewood Park Golf Course and Osprey Links Golf Course.
Now, as his life journey with us is complete, we take comfort in knowing that James and Margaret are reunited again. We thank the many employees of the Granite Landing Retirement community, his palliative care team and especially Dr. K. Munoz for being there for him over the years.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge, ON. There will be no visitation. Interment will occur in North Bay at St. John's Cemetery on September 12th at 11 am.
