Larry Ashley Price, a lifelong resident of Ontario, was born on May 14, 1935, amidst the towering trees and gentle streams of Dymond Township. He embarked on his final journey on February 19, 2025, leaving behind him a legacy of love, service, and introspection. Larry’s departure at the age of 89, in the warmth and comfort of his Arnstein home, signifies the end of a life profoundly and universally impactful.
For more than four decades, Larry shared his life and love with his dear wife, Dorothy Price (née Hopkins). Together, they raised two remarkable daughters: Valerie Price (Nathan Duchaine) and Beverly Price (Adam Barnsdale). Larry's familial influence extended warmly to his cherished nieces Bonny, Lisa, and Tracy, and his esteemed nephews Adam and Andrew. His life was further enriched by the enduring friendship of Gary Toogood and Ava Vosu, whose friendship since 1977 held a cherished place in his heart. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ella and George Price, and brothers, Vernon, Jimmy, and Roger (Corky), as well as his nephew, Shawn Price, who all laid an indelible mark on his life story.
In his professional life, Larry was a passionate journalist. With his role at the Anishinabek News and through his freelancing work for various publications, he published 14 significant reports for the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. His writing didn't just tell stories; it was a courageous call for justice and a testament to his dedication as an ally for Canada’s First Peoples.
Beyond the written word, Larry's love for hockey shone brightly. Whether playing in local leagues or rallying as a loyal supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, his passion for the sport was infectious. He also harboured a deep sense of community and contributed his time and energy to the Commanda Community Center and Museum, where his presence was always valued.
Nature was another one of Larry’s great teachers, and he lived devotedly in tune with the natural world, embracing its beauty and the life lessons it provided. Those who knew him best will remember his gentle kindness, profound generosity, and the introspective approach he brought to life's many challenges. His spirit was full of love, and he granted those around him grace and support in times of need, offering unique perspectives on life’s most profound questions. He enriched the lives he touched with his wisdom and playful sense of humor.
Larry has left an indelible mark, not just on the earth, but on all who knew him. While his physical presence will be dearly missed, we take solace in the spiritual imprints he leaves behind. In the rustle of leaves, we will hear his laughter, and in the warmth of the sun, feel his comforting embrace. In every lake's reflection, we see his enduring spirit, and in the winds, his gentle and loving whispers echo.
To close with the eloquence of an old Lakota prayer: Larry sought a life of strength and wisdom, and though life fades like a sunset, he embarks on a new journey, guided and guarded by the spirits of his ancestors.

I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes
ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Cremation has taken place and Larry’s family will celebrate his life privately. No public services will be held.
At Larry’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army, and North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre are suggested.
