We are sad to announce the passing of our mother Dorothy Helen Peebles on February 6, 2025 at the amazing age of 102 years and 3 months. Her story began November 8, 1922.
She was the very loved daughter of the late Alma and Percy Button and the little sister to the late Jean, Edna and George. Sadly her generation is a beautiful memory.
While working at an Insurance company in Toronto, Mom met the love of her life, Lorne, and were married at the Guild Inn in Toronto in 1951 by our grandfather Rev. Archie Peebles. They were happily married for 53 years until dad's untimely death in 2004.
Mom nurtured her children throughout their lives. Including proofreading their school essays, driving to swim practice, enjoying family holidays and right up to her passing, keeping all of us informed of worldly news events.
Mom always enjoyed travelling to many exciting destinations throughout North America and beyond.
When mom was very young her dad bought a cozy (Grandma's favourite word!) cottage on Lake Simcoe. Cherished family memories were made playing badminton and exciting croquet games on the front lawn. Mom enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting and was very well known for her delicious tasting butter tarts. She was great at showing her love through simple acts of kindness.
Mom lived in her beloved city of Toronto, always cheering on her favourite team the Toronto Maple Leafs, until her 100th year when she moved to North Bay.
Mother will be sadly missed by her children Peggy and Vinny, Barbara and Gerald and her son Brian (deceased). We are very proud of our mother and thankful for all she has done for us over the many years. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews Bruce, Jim and Liz, Bob and Jan, Peggy and Molly. We thank them for the love they showed to mom throughout the years.
All of her friends were very special to mom. She enjoyed keeping in contact with her long time dear friends starting with her best friend she met in Public School. She loved staying in touch through lunches and phone calls with the office girls. Mom always recalled her office days as some of the best times in her life! We would like to thank the dear friends mom made in Toronto, California, Yukon, and North Bay who were so kind to her for so many years.
A heartfelt thank you and most sincere gratitude to all of the caring, dedicated and warmhearted staff at Waters Edge who were so kind and compassionate with mom's care while she was a resident there for one year. We are so grateful to each of my mother's nurses, PSWs kitchen and support staff for their compassion and care in keeping her comfortable in her final days.
To honour our mother Helen, please take a moment out of your busy day to reach out to a family member, friend or senior and put a smile on their face. Please pick up the the phone and enjoy a chat. That is what mom loved the most. The connection and sharing time with people. Mom loved to get caught up on the news and also to converse about current events. If you have a little more time enjoy a cup of coffee or tea together while sharing a memory or laugh. Hope it will make you, the phone caller, card sender, the visitor feel wonderful knowing that you reached out and touched someone's heart and made the person you shared your time with feel so special.
Goodbye to a wonderful, kind, remarkable woman and mother. Mother's final resting place will be with her husband Lorne, at York Cemetery Toronto. She will always be remembered with love.
