It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Rae Payne in her home on Monday, September 16th, at the age of 74. Linda was surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Garry Payne, sons Matthew and Ryan, daughter-in-law Andrea, and granddaughters Lyla and Ella. She is survived by her brother Ken and his partner Martha. She was predeceased by her parents Grace and Ray Hooker.

Linda enjoyed a long and rewarding career at Widdifield Secondary School where she taught both English and Geography. She enjoyed many extracurricular activities, both at the school level and in the community. She coached, worked with Student Council, she played tennis, golf and curled. She was involved with OSSTF at the branch and district levels, the YMCA Board of Directors, and the executive of the North Bay Volleyball league and the executive of Pinewood Ladies Golf.

One of the highlights of her life was worldwide travel, some with family and friends, some with her husband only, and some with her sisterhood of friends who also became heartwarming caregivers over the past two years.

Linda and her family would like to thank Dr. Mah and Dr. Nelson of North Bay, and Drs. Linford, Pearce and Masters of Sudbury, plus the nurses of the cancer clinic at NBRHC, nurses Angus and Natasha of D3, and all the Paramed PSW’s and nurses, especially Cloe, Talya, Cassie and Chelsea.

Please join Linda's family at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld Street) on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, for a time of remembrance in the Chapel from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Following this, we invite you to join us for fellowship and refreshments from 2-4 p.m. to visit and share stories. Casual attire is encouraged.

A donation to the North Bay Regional Health Centre would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences may be left at www.martynfh.com.
