It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elin Palangio (nee Piercy) on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice at the age of 83 years.
She fought cancer (brain tumour – glioblastoma) with courage and determination every step of the way since the diagnosis. Many of her family and friends were there for her through the good times and hard times through her battle with cancer. Elin had expressed she was grateful for the love and caring she was provided during the treatment and care process.
Beloved wife of Dave Palangio who were married for 45 years. Loving mother to Karen (Greg) Bullard, and Michael (Lisa) Palangio. Words cannot express how much she meant to her family and the unconditional love we had for one another. She will be missed dearly and will be remembered as being so gracious and kind to her grandchildren Ryan and Alison Bullard, and Vincent Palangio. Predeceased by her parents Helen and Walter J. Piercy, sister Anne Piercy, and brother Dr. Neil Piercy (Kathy).
Elin was born in Noranda Quebec on July 19, 1940. Later, she was raised in Kingston and attended high school at the Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI). Following high school, she received her BA at Queen’s University and Bachelor of Education (BEd) at Nipissing University. She had a lengthy career as a teacher and retired in 1998. She took great pleasure in keeping track of her former students and the accomplishments they had achieved.
Elin enjoyed many hobbies and had many friends through the years. She was always game for whatever fun activities her grandchildren would request of her, whether it be cooking, playing sports, shopping, or video games.
Her family and friends will always remember Elin for the person she was to everyone and her remarkable determination to live a good life and seize the day “carpe diem.” Her character and how she put other people ahead of herself made her family and friends view her as “one of a kind.”
We will see you again when we meet in heaven.
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate” ‘Proverbs 31:31.’
