With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Norton (nee O’Shea). Mary passed away peacefully in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the age of 94 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Roy Neville Norton, who passed away in 1971, her parents Bridie and John, and her siblings Noreen, John Joe, Bridie, Paddy, Michael, Crohan, Sheila and Philomena, and her loving companion, Harry Sledge.

Mary was the devoted mother of Cathy (Wayne), Patricia (Robert) and Susan. Grandma will be sadly missed by her 8 grandchildren, Lindsay (Dave), Ryan (Brittany) & Jordan (Becka), Wesley, Andrew & Victoria, and Joshua & Zachary (Pam); 6 great grandchildren Freya & Llewyn, Liam & Siobhan, and Henry & Margot were blessed to know their Grandma Mary. She was dearly loved by her surviving sisters Eileen, Ann, Kathleen and Teresa.

Mary was born in 1931 into a large Catholic family in rural County Kerry, Ireland. She left home at age 17 years to become a midwife in the East End of London, England. Mary met and married Roy and emigrated to Montréal, Quebec in the late 1950’s. Eventually settling in Pierrefonds, Quebec, they raised their three girls while Mary worked as a labour and delivery nurse, largely at the Lakeshore General Hospital until her retirement. One of Mum’s great passions was tennis. She played into her 70’s and watched matches up until her passing. As an avid bridge player, she played until she was 93 years old. Her faith carried her through life’s challenges, as did her gratitude, gentleness and loving nature. Mum was a beacon of positivity, always thanking others. Her cup was always more than half full. She loved and was proud of her Irish beginnings and returned often to Ireland to her large extended family. She enjoyed Irish music and was enamoured by the entertainer, Daniel O’Donnell.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, March 20th at 11am at Notre Dame Parish in Dawson Creek, BC. Father Vener Sabacan will officiate. A burial will take place at a later date.
