1937 – 2023
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved father, Anthony David McKenzie, who left this world in the early morning of October 24, 2023. He was 86 years old and lived a life filled with love, laughter, the outdoors, and music. Anthony is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret (nee Baldwin), sons Roger (Leasa), John (Ann) and daughter Cheryl (Robert St. Amour), by his grandchildren Christopher (Heather), AJ (Samantha), Stefan (Kelsey), McKenzie (Scott), Curtis (Devin) and by eight beautiful great grandchildren. Anthony is also survived by his brother Jim in Kirkland Lake, ON and Richard (Juanita) in Sydney, NS. Anthony was predeceased by his parents, his sister Laura, and his brothers Norman and Danny.
Anthony was born on April 19, 1937, in Kirkland Lake, ON to Anthony Sr. and Evelyn McKenzie. He grew up in Englehart, ON where he learned the values of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family. These values would define his life and leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. If you knew "Tony", you had a friend.
Tony and Marg raised their family in and around North Bay, ON. For years Tony worked as an electrician in the North Bay area gaining a reputation as one of the neatest electricians in the area. Tony and Marg moved to Shawville, QC in 2015 and quickly made an impact on the small community. Tony, with his music and love of the outdoors, quickly gained friends from all around. He will be missed by his Hooley gang that he loved his time with and couldn't get enough.
Throughout his life, Tony was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather and great grandfather. He was the cornerstone of our family, always there with a reassuring smile and words of wisdom. His unwavering support and guidance helped shape us into the people we are today.
Anthony had a passion for music, hunting and fishing. He shared his enthusiasm for these pursuits with his loved ones. Whether it was fishing in his secret holes, to hunting with the crew in Englehart, or playing music with his friends at the Hooley. Tony always did it with a grin that told you he was in one of his happy places.
Friends may call at the Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. following a memorial service in the chapel of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the Shawville Lions Club for the Shawville Country Jamboree in Anthony McKenzie’s honour.
Rest in peace, dear Dad and Papa Tony.
You will be deeply missed,
but your memory will forever brighten our lives and
live on in your children and their children.
