March 21, 1954 - October 4, 2023
In his 69th year following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. To honour Tom’s wishes, there will be no celebration of life service.
Born Thomas (Tom) William Jackson on March 21st, 1954, to parents Allan and Elizabeth (Betty) Jackson, he was the fourth born of five children. Tom’s legacy shines on through his wife Kathryn Thorup, his sons Christopher (Becky), Michael (Robyn), stepson Blake Brubacher and four grandchildren, Eli, Rylee, Lenoxx, and Novah all of whom he adored. And he was loved in return. Predeceased by his wife Cheryl (nee Luckett) in 2004 and his sister Lorna (2023). Survived by siblings, Harold, Ken, Jan.
Tom had a successful thirty-five year career in the Non-Destructive testing industry, advancing from a technician to senior management with Atlas Testing, Indu-test Inspection and Team Industrial in Oakville. Tom and his partners sold their company in 2007 and he retired in 2010. Not one to kick back and relax, Tom converted his love of driving and talents as a jack of all trades to part time positions with local businesses. Tom enjoyed an active lifestyle and the outdoors; hiking, cycling, gardening, and a life-long passion for motorcycles, classic cars, and RV’s.
He was also an adventurer, along with Kathryn, they explored many of the spectacular National Parks across North America. His dream of country living was fulfilled in 2022 when he relocated from Carlisle to Owen Sound, where he and Kathryn built their retirement home in Georgian Bluffs. He appreciated the peacefulness of being surrounded by nature. Tom was a proud father and grandfather; he loved his family deeply and embraced living every day to its fullest. He was a good and gentle man and will be missed more than words can express. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Bruce Trail Conservancy or OSHaRE would be appreciated.
