HARRINGTON, Desmond Thomas

Peacefully, with family by his side, at North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was in his 87th year. Desmond was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Shields) of Powassan and much loved father of Sheila Davis of North Bay, Dean Harrington (Judith) of Powassan and the late Sean Harrington (1965-1970). Poppo will be lovingly remembered by Taylor and Tanner Davis and Cole and Jaye Harrington. Des was the dear brother of Margaret Gromley (late Jack), Jim Harrington (Carmel), Teresa Wren (late Mark), Claire Cotnam (late Gerald), Robert Harrington (Doris) and Kevin “Ted” Harrington (Monique). He was predeceased by his parents Mary Frances (Drohan) and Thomas Joseph Harrington and siblings Marita Mulligan (late Gerald), Maureen “Reenie” Dillon (Jack, surviving), Patrick Harrington (late Inez) and Mary Shields (late Mike). Des was well known in the North Bay area for his involvement in insurance and real estate and for the last 30 years was the owner/operator of Highview Golf Course in Powassan. The Harrington family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. and at St. Joseph’s Church, Powassan on Wednesday, March 23 from 10:00 am to 11:00. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Cremation will precede interment of ashes at All Saints Mausoleum, North Bay. If desired, donations in memory of Des to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society are suggested.
