Margaret (O’Connor) Gleason passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, North Bay, surrounded by the love of her family.

Margaret was born in Killaloe, ON (July 31, 1936) to Patrick and Ethel (Sullivan) O’Connor (predeceased).  She is predeceased by her siblings, Fr. Desmond O’Connor and Terrence O’Connor, and her husbands, Alva Fournier and James Gleason.  She is survived by her siblings, Kevin O’Connor (Maureen), Sister Phyllis O’Connor, CSJ, Colleen Dodge (Robert, predeceased) and John O’Connor (Diane) as well as her 5 children, Christopher Fournier, Donna Fortier (Ron), Michael Fournier (Cathy), Peter Fournier (Kelly), and Karen Maloney (Scott) and 14 grandchildren – Katherine Eiserman (Paul), Alyssa Wallace (Guy), Chantal Kennedy (Blaine), Jessica MacMillan (Nick), John Pratt (Karen), Jessica Krikst (David), Kelly Fortier, Cole Fournier (Lexie), Lindsay Fournier, Lauren Fournier, Emily Boucher (Remi), Chelsea Cavallin (Nick), Bridgette Maloney (Dylan), and Samantha Maloney, and 17 great grandchildren.

The family moved to Kirkland Lake when she was a toddler where Margaret attended school.  Following graduation from high school she moved to North Bay to attend St. Joseph’s School of Nursing graduating in 1956.  Marg spent her career in nursing primarily in the Emergency Room and Endoscopy Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital, North Bay.  She was known for her kind, compassionate care.

Margaret’s greatest love was her family.  Her wonderful artistic gifts were used in painting portraits of each of the grandchildren.  She also used other talents in knitting and sewing, making sweaters and many Halloween costumes for the children.  Favourite pies were gifted each Christmas.

Visitation will take place on August 26, 2024 at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Road, North Bay, ON from 10 am until 12pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption, on August 26, 2024 at 2pm. Luncheon downstairs to follow.

The family wishes donations in memory of Marg be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, 2025 Main Street West, North Bay, ON.
