It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Evans, a beloved architect, dedicated volunteer, and cherished family member, who passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. He was 85 years old.
Jim was the devoted husband of Donna Evans, his wife of 58 years. He is survived by his three daughters: Kathryn MacLellan, Susan (Paul) Robillard, and Jennifer (Paul) Valenti. His legacy lives on in his five grandchildren: Eryn MacLellan (Mike Chadwick), Jill (Braden) Vaananen, Evan Robillard, Emma Valenti, and Sarah Valenti. Jim is also survived by his sister, MaryAnn Evans, his brother, Don Evans, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Jim’s life was a testament to his passion for architecture, service, and family. A partner at Critchley, Delean, Trussler, Evans and Bertrand Architects, Jim joined the firm in 1963 and became a partner in 1981. Throughout his distinguished career, he worked on numerous projects across Northern Ontario, contributing to the design of many educational, medical, and office buildings, including the North Bay Regional Health Centre. His legacy in the architectural community will be felt for generations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a tireless volunteer and community leader. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Nipissing and served as an executive for the North Bay Power and Sail Squadron. He was a past member of the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority and contributed his time and expertise as an elder at Trinity United Church. Jim also sat on the Nipissing Board of Governors, making lasting impacts on the institutions and organizations he was a part of.
Jim loved spending time on the water and with his family. He had a special joy for traveling, often venturing on adventures with friends and creating cherished memories. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his community will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care during Jim’s final days.
Cremation will take place. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in April. Further details will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rotary Club of Nipissing, Trinity United Church, or the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
