It’s with great sadness that the family of Ron Daoust announce his passing on January 8, 2024, at the age of 89. Ron will lovingly be remembered by his children, Nancy (Dave), Kelly, Tracey; grandchildren, Blaire, Kady, Hannah (Zach), Sean (Jess), Robin (Rebecca), Maisie; great-grandchildren, Cecil, Cameron; siblings, Butch (Edna), Bob (Debbie), Lorraine (Keith); and numerous other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Beryl; parents Rose and Herman; sibling Frances (Roger); and in laws Edna and Keith.

Ron often worked alongside his father Herman. Together they operated D & D Hobby Shop and were instrumental in starting and running the Leisure World franchise. Ron spent his spare time building and flying model airplanes. He also owned many race horses over the years. It was a treat to get a family picture when one of his horses won a race at Sudbury Downs.

With his wife Beryl, Ron built a beautiful retirement home at their camp, which was the gathering place for family and friends. Ron’s daughters and their children spent every summer on Lake Nosbonsing along with aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most afternoons were spent boozing and cruising on Ron’s pontoon boat. Ron was a hard working, playful father and grandfather who loved a good practical joke. He was a man of few words, but could always be counted on for his mischievous sense of humour and his generosity. We will miss our quiet visits at Extendicare York. The family would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion, in particular PSWs Tiffany and Britany.

Folks are invited to celebrate Ron’s life with us on Thursday, January 16 from 4-7 pm at La Fromagerie near Elgin and Cedar.
