It is with sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Hazel Currie at Nipissing Manor on October 8, 2019, 11 days short of her 91st birthday. Predeceased by her husband Ronald Currie and her daughter Linda Currie. Dearly loved mother of Marlene Howard (Tim), Paul Currie (Janet), Thomas Currie, Daniel Currie, Donna Currie, Randall Currie (Carrie-Lee Durocher), Richard Currie (Lynn) and Shawn Currie (Sue). Cherished grandma of 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Helen McKenzie (Donald-predeceased) and the late Jack Hollett (Gertrude-surviving). Predeceased by her parents; Jack and Hazel Hollett.

Hazel loved life.  She saw beauty in everyone and in the smallest of things. Her big, beautiful, generous heart was evidenced daily by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  She and her husband, Ron, warmly welcomed family, friends and strangers alike into their home and no-one left without a hug.

Hazel was devout in her faith and was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years.  And oh, how she loved her sports, both as a participant, in her younger years, skating, playing baseball, ping pong and darts, or watching her children and grand children play.  On any given Saturday night, she would most certainly be found cheering on her Leafs.

Though Hazel was not a musician, she loved music. More often than not, she could be heard singing in the kitchen as she cooked and baked for those she loved.

But, more than anything, Hazel loved her family… her 9 children and her many grand and great grand children.  No one was more deeply committed to her chosen vocation of motherhood than Hazel.  Like her husband, Ron, Hazel always put her family first. She was proud of each of her children, not just for their accomplishments, but, more importantly, for who they had become… loving, caring, compassionate, grateful, and generous adults.  Hazel will be dearly missed, but, with absolute certainty, she will live on in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, in memory of Hazel, those who wish, may donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.  Thank you for your generosity.

Family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Sunday October 13, 2019 from 11 am – 1 pm with prayers and special remembrance being offered at 12:30 pm. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
