It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ken Culin. Ken passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Wednesday October 4, 2023.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Culin (Williams), with whom he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together.  He will be sadly missed by his son, Duane, daughter-in-law, Lisa (Lamothe) his four grandchildren, whom he dearly loved and was so proud of, Jackson, Emma, Alea, and Anna, and his brother, Warren Culin (Karen Hampel), who were always there when he needed them.  He will also be deeply missed by his best friends of over 50 years, Norman and Linda Shillington.  He will also be missed by many extended family members and dear friends.

Ken was born and raised in Port Loring, ON, and always kept his roots grounded in the small town he called ‘home.’  Although his work and family path took him away from Port Loring, he continued to return ‘home’ often on day trips with his brother Warren, especially for the Legion Luncheons where he had the opportunity to stay up-to-date on all the recent Port Loring news.  He was so proud of his roots in Port Loring.

Ken worked at the Royal Bank for over 10 years before serving as a proud police officer with the North Bay Police Department for over 28 years.  He was an avid golfer and truly enjoyed being a long time member of the North Bay Golf and Country Club.  He was a life member of the West Ferris Minor Hockey Association, volunteering his time to give back to kids in sport.  Ken was part of many social circles and truly valued all who he befriended along the way.  He started his early mornings, meeting his friends for coffee and discussing current events, time spent that he cherished deeply.  He also had so many wonderful stories and memories to share about his time spent with friends and family in Florida and at the family cottage in Restoule.  The family is forever grateful for the amazing friendships and for the love and support over the years, especially through this difficult time.

The family would like extend a very special ‘thank you’ to Dr. Moore and the incredible care team at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.  We could not have asked for a better care team for Ken.  The genuine compassion that was expressed to Ken and his entire family during this difficult journey will be something that we will forever be grateful for.  You are all truly appreciated.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 11:00am - 12:30pm at the Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St. North Bay) with a Memorial Service to follow in the Martyn Chapel at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers and if you feel so inclined, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, the Noah Strong Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
