BERTILS, Paul Gunnar (updated)

Paul passed away peacefully of cancer, at home on January 8, 2024. He was surrounded by family, after a brief illness.  For the first portion of his career, Paul was an educational administrator with the former Nipissing Board of Education, where he served as principal of E.T. Carmichael P.S., E.W. Norman P.S., and Ferris Glen P.S.  He retired from Ferris Glen in 1997.  Paul was an active member of the Elementary Teachers' Federation for many years. After retirement, he remained involved in education by spending the final portion of his career at the Schulich School of Education - Nipissing University, where he worked as a Teacher Advisor/Supervisor. Paul was happily married to Marilyn for 56 years. Together, they raised three children: Liisa (Scott), Laurie (Jamie), and Mark. He is the proud grandfather of two granddaughters: Avery and Emily, and a grandson. Paul is the brother of Ruth Wiwchar (Wally).  At Paul's request, there will be no service at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation, Jumpstart, or Sports for Kids Timmins would be gratefully acknowledged by his family.
