Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, at the Algonquin Nursing Home surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born June 10, 1930, in Papineau Cameron, Ontario.

She was the beloved wife of Roger Belanger who preceded her death in 2012. They married and raised six children at their homestead on Chenier Road.

Evelyn was very well-known and respected in her community. She was involved in many organizations such as Les filles d’Isabelle, Ladies Auxiliary, the Royal Canadian Legion, The Golden Age, the school Breakfast Program, and Ste-Anne’s Parish. She was a cook at various local restaurants such as Breton, Valois and Myrt’s Grill to name a few. She then went on to run a successful catering business of her own. She prepared delicious meals that were enjoyed by many. Her door was always open, she enjoyed having family and friends savour a meal or even just a cup of tea with some of her baking. Her talents were next to none.

She was an accomplished knitter, crocheter, and seamstress. She produced beautiful pieces that were cherished by anyone who was gifted her creations. She also enjoyed gardening, that yielded many fresh vegetables, and she beautified her yard with flowers every year. She was a charming lady with a very distinct laugh. She was known as Zoune to her family and will be lovingly remembered as the Queen of Papineau.

Evelyn and Roger raised six children: Préscille Champagne (Gaston) both predeceased, Laure Dumas (Réal), René Belanger (Sandra Walton), Rhea Nowaczek (Al), Paul Belanger (predeceased), Marc Belanger (Monique). She was the proud grandmother of Normand, Stephan, Melanie, Eric, Genevieve, Robyn, Kurtis, Josée, Martine and great-grandmother to Evan, Colton, Isabella, Destiny, Olivia, Sadie, Darcy, Anna, Hudson, and Kalem.

She leaves to mourn her siblings Amanda, Neldo, Lionel, and June, their spouses, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. We take comfort knowing that she will be reunited in heaven with her family members who preceded her.

A special thank you to Helen, Kathryn, Sara, Riley, Cheryl, Jennifer, and Dr. Redhead for providing excellent care and comfort during her stay at the Algonquin Nursing Home. We also acknowledge Tante Georgette who has accompanied us throughout this last journey of her life; there are angels amongst us.

Evelyn’s family will receive friends at the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel” on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Anne’s Parish (Mattawa) on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel”.
