It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Baptie on Tuesday, November 7th 2023 at the age of 78 years. Bob passed away peacefully at the home he shared with his beloved wife Joyce (nee Woodward) Baptie, and son James “Jim” Baptie.
Bob was born in Toronto on October 12th, 1945 to parents Cecilia and Robert Baptie (both predeceased). He was predeceased by his brother James Baptie, and is survived by his brother Dave (and sister-in-law Joyce), as well as children James “Jim” Baptie, Sandra Baptie, Ronald Baptie, and Robert Jr. Baptie.
Bob had a lengthy career as a machinist, concluding that portion among his friends & family at J&J Machine Works. He then wrapped up his working career altogether with a brief turn as a machinist teacher’s assistant at Canadore College, and enjoyed being able to share his years of knowledge with students.
Bob was also known for his musical talent. A skilled guitar player and vocalist, he performed publicly throughout his earlier life, and was noted for his contributions to a published album. Later, he lent his musical talents to teaching friends, singing for residents in retirement homes, and even produced a fundraising album in support of a local charity.
In his later years, Bob developed a surprising fondness for video games, to the amusement and delight of friends & family. His greatest joys, however, came from his gentle-natured love of animals; he enjoyed watching & feeding local wildlife, and shared a special bond with his dog Honey, who remained at his side to the very end.
We would like to thank the medical professionals who provided care to Bob over the years.
As per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held.
Donations to All Heart Pet Rescue would be gratefully appreciated by his family.
