(1943 – 2024)

Alfred passed away at Health Sciences North on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Margaret Alkins (née Pacaud). Dear father of Dale Alkins (Christine) and Andrew Alkins (Rebecca). Affectionately known as “Grump” to his four grandchildren Chloé, Gabrielle, Aubré, and Èllis. Also survived by his siblings Valery (Ken Smith), Doug Alkins (Connie), and Penny Beal (Ron, predeceased).

Alfred had a long and successful career as a survey technician and estimator. He primarily worked for Henry’s Excavating and Bruman Construction in North Bay, installing utilities and building roads for many of the subdivisions we live in today. He was an amazing dad and “Grump” who took great pride in his boys and grandchildren, supporting them in everything they did and travelling many kilometres to see them perform. In his later years, he was often seen around the rinks, soccer pitches, and baseball diamonds sporting his red hat so the kids could easily identify him.

As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Alfred will be gratefully acknowledged by his family. Online condolences at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
