Gee-Gees to face Stingers in U Sports men's hockey final

OTTAWA — Mitch Martin's second goal of the game, scored at 19:18 of the third period, lifted the underdog Ottawa Gee-Gees past the Toronto Metropolitan Bold 4-3 on Saturday in the first semifinal of the U SPORTS men's hockey championship at TD Place.

The Gee-Gees, seeded eighth headed into the tournament, will face the third-seeded Concordia Stingers in Sunday's final. The Stingers beat the second-seeded Saskatchewan Huskies 3-0 in Saturday's other semifinal.

Bradley Chenier and Vincent Labelle also scored for the Gee-Gees, who led 1-0 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third.

Jordan D'Intino, Ian Martin and Tyler Savard scored for the Bold, who will play the Huskies for bronze on Sunday.

Franky Lapenna made 30 saves for the Gee-Gees, while Kai Edmonds had 25 saves for the Bold.

The Gee-Gees went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Bold were 0-for-1.

Julien Anctil scored twice and Alexandre Nadeau added a single as the Stingers scored three times in the third period to beat the Huskies. Mathieu Bizier chipped in with two assists.

Nikolas Hurtubise made 19 saves to register the shutout.

The Stingers outshot the Huskies 30-19.
