North Bay singer-songwriter Rose-Erin Stokes pokes fun at the northern Ontario passion for ice fishing in her latest release called “The Same Way,” the lead single off her upcoming LP, "When The Sun Goes Away."

"This video was a labour of love and a grassroots effort with fellow creatives Andrew Sowka and Eric Robillard," says Stokes. It was an idea that sat idle for a few years.
"We thought it would be a funny way to fuse a northern Ontario activity with art," she told BayToday. "The story evolved from there. The song is kind of emotive and emotional and I kinda like the juxtaposition."
"The video was an idea that Rose and I came up with some time ago; it's cute and quirky, but still pulls on some of the emotional strings that resonate so well with her music." says Sowka, long time friend and collaborator with Stokes." "I've always adored Rose's music, her artistic sensibilities and delicate voice. It's always a pleasure sharing the stage, screen, or studio with her, any chance I get."
It's a quirky, pastel-coloured tale of a small town fishing derby; where the catch-of-the-day is an unexpected friendship says Stokes.
Stokes says she hopes to do more videos in the future.
The song is the first track released from the album When the Sun Goes Away, due out in August.
The track was produced by Jim Bryson and also features North Bay musician Vince Aqulina on percussion as well as Phil Charbonneau on bass and Kinley Dowling on strings.
"We're hoping to do more videos for other songs," she says.
Meanwhile, Stokes is presently studying music therapy at Concordia University in Montreal. It uses music to achieve non-musical goals like physical or emotional goals.
"I'm enjoying it. It's using some of the previous work I've done. It's good."
