Yellek Trail disturbance leads to multiple charges

Police say the man had two edged weapons and approached in a threatening manner towards the officers — the accused has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, uttering threats causing death or bodily harm, and failure to comply with a release order

The North Bay Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after police responded to a disturbance.

On July 7, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members from the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) were assisted by the North Bay Detachment of the OPP after responding to a disturbance on Yellek Trail, Nipissing First Nation.

When police arrived, a person with two edged weapons approached in a threatening manner towards the officers. Police disarmed and arrested the individual. No significant injuries were sustained.

As a result of the investigation, James Jackson, 30, from Nipissing First Nation, is charged with:

  • Assault a peace officer while threatening to use a weapon
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 12 in North Bay.

The investigation is ongoing by the OPP's North Bay Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
