Three people are in hospital after a fire at a triplex at 241 Chippewa Street West last night.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says shortly after 11 last night fire crews from all three stations responded and on arrival entered the basement unit and performed a search of the unit which was the seat of the fire.
"Firefighters found the resident and successfully carried the resident to safety," says Saunders.
The resident was immediately taken to the North Bay Regional Health Centre by paramedics that had also responded to the call.
"The patient that was rescued from the unit of origin has suffered very serious injuries. A mother and young child from another unit were also transported to hospital but are expected to be fine," added Saunders.
An investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene now and working with an investigator from North Bay Fire to determine the cause of the fire.
"North Bay has experienced a significant uptick in the number of fires recently," says Saunders. "North Bay Firefighters are again requesting that you take a moment to ensure that your smoke and CO alarms are working properly. Alarms that are more than 10 years old need to be replaced. Properly located, properly maintained smoke alarms will save your life."
