Halloween night is not only a fun night for trick or treating.
It is also the last day you can park your vehicle on the street overnight.
That's because November 1 is when the City of North Bay winter parking restrictions go into effect.
Bylaw Enforcement Officer Ron Melnyk says the restrictions run from November 1st to April 15th.
"In the Downtown Improvement Area it goes until 6:30 am, any street that has the last block with a cul-de-sac or dead-end it goes until 8:30 am and all other streets until 7:30 am," Melnyk told CKAT, noting that the daily ban starts at 3 a.m. and runs until later in the morning.
The change to three end times was made a few years ago now and Melnyk says they've recognized a positive difference, most notably with the 7:30 a.m. restriction for most streets.
“There have been some improvements for sure with some of the streets being able to be cleaned more effectively keeping vehicles off the streets until 7:30 a.m. so the plows have been able to get to these areas that typically have ice build-up and snow build-up and because of parked cars they have been able to get them cleaned now more regularly before cars block up the streets.“
He told CKAT the restrictions are all about helping snow plows do their job effectively.
Parking is also restricted within 12 hours of posting snow removal signs and 24 hours of a snowfall.
