Police were so amazed yesterday that motorists would ignore warnings that Highway 17 was closed by a fatal accident that they took to Twitter.
"A total of 3 drivers were charged today for Driving on a Closed Highway. Reminder to everyone that the Hwy is closed for everyone's safety."
The highway was actually closed by two fatal accidents yesterday.

You could pay a fine of $110 and upon conviction, three demerit points will be added to your driving record. Some insurance companies may not cover you if you are involved in a collision while travelling on a closed highway.
The offense of "Drive On Closed Highway" falls under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) section 134(3):
"Where signs or traffic control devices have been posted or placed under subsection (2), no person shall drive or operate a vehicle on the closed highway or part thereof in intentional disobedience of the signs or traffic control devices. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 134 (3)."
