A small but dedicated group of participants showed up to Lee Park this morning for the annual Heart & Stroke Foundation’s ‘Lace Up for Life’ fundraising walk.
Laura Lewis event co-ordinator says the walk is a rain or shine event and she was pleased to see both dedicated volunteers and walkers.
“I was kind of sceptical whether or not their would be people out, I’m excited that their was a fair bit of people we were hoping for more but what can you do,” she states.
Lewis says it is rewarding to see the commitment people have to the foundation, and the fact that they come out and give of their time on such a horrible day is a true testament of the support the foundation has in the area.
“I think it’s amazing, it’s very good because let’s face it we all know someone who has suffered from a stroke or heart related diseases.”
“I myself my father, I know a lot of people and it’s great to see people that aren’t intimidated by a little bit of rain.”
Lewis says it will take some time to have a total for funds raised due to the inclement weather deterring folks from coming out, and anticipates a fair bit of work ahead to gather up outstanding pledge forms.
“We won’t know for a number of days anyway, a week or so, but we will announce something,” she explains.
“I imagine there is going to be quite a few people who we have to track down and it’s kind of difficult right now because we don’t have an area co-ordinator.”
Lewis says that people who did not make it out and have outstanding pledge forms and money can call the main office at 476-6196 to arrange pick up or delivery.
