The long-planned project will include two-way sections of multi-use pathway separated from the road by a curb, as well as a section of bike lanes that will connect Gormanville Road to the Main Street West intersection and link up with the west end of the Kate Pace Way on Memorial Drive.
Improvements to the intersection and a new signalized pedestrian/cyclist crossing near Timmins Street will also be included.
The work is moving ahead following a lengthy planning and public consultation process that took place over three years, including an Environmental Assessment which selected Main Street West as the preferred route.
The project is being supported by $377,000 in funding through the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program, and, once completed, will help form part of the Voyageur Cycling Route, which spans from Sudbury to Ottawa.
Construction of the pathway with take place over the next two to three months on Main Street West and the west end of Memorial Drive, while improvements to the intersection and a new signalized pedestrian/cyclist crossing will be completed in 2021.
There will be some traffic disruptions during the course of construction.
