North Bay is hosting another high profile OFSAA event this month.
West Ferris Secondary and Intermediate School will play host to the OFSAA, Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, Boys A Basketball Championships starting on Monday with action taking place at three gyms across the city.
The three-day, 20 team tournament will be played at Chippewa, West Ferris and Nipissing Universities’ gyms.
“All of the committee's hard work is coming together and we are anticipating an excellent tournament with some very high calibre basketball,” said convenor Brandon Grube in a release.
The West Ferris Trojan Senior Boys team, coming off their NDA championship season, will be the host school with the NOSSA spot being filled by White Pines out of Sault Ste Marie.
The Trojans will see their first action at 10:30 a.m. on Monday on their own court where they will take on the number 6 seed Westminster Secondary School out of London Ontario.
The total of 35 games will be played over the three days, with the final game slated to tip-off on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at West Ferris.
Local hotels and restaurants will see an increase in business over the course of the tournament with 19 teams visiting the city.
“The economic benefit to the city is huge," said Larry Tougas, a former Trojans basketball coach and the current Sports Tourism Coordinator for Tourism North Bay.
"The city and local businesses are grateful for the hosts schools, the organizing committee and the administration at West Ferris. The event is going to be top-notch.”
