The second annual “Welcome to North Bay” event is for both new residents and those who want to learn more about North Bay.

It's planned for Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to connect with community organizations; "and to extend a warm welcome to new residents of all backgrounds to our community," says a news release.

The event will give newcomers an opportunity to connect with services, recreational clubs, places of worship, and social and volunteer opportunities.

"These organizations all contribute to the enrichment of our community, and we hope this event helps support new opportunities for new residents," according to the City release.

This initiative is part of Welcoming Week 2024, which runs Sept.13-22.

Organizations and communities bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity," says its website. "Welcoming Week is an annual campaign that celebrates the work in communities to become welcoming places for all, including immigrants."

Launched in 2012 by Welcoming America and its members, Welcoming Week provides individuals and organizations the opportunity to showcase their values through events and initiatives that foster connections and collaboration between immigrants and non-immigrants, as well as belonging for all.

The City of North Bay is partnering with the North Bay and Area Local Immigration Partnership, and Chamber of Commerce.

“The Welcome to North Bay event is a great opportunity for recently arrived newcomers as well as those who have been here a few years to learn more about the services and organizations within our community. We are excited and thankful to have our community come together and welcome new residents as they build their new home here in North Bay,” said Julie Van Berkel, Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator.
