Water main break means low pressure for parts of city

'This may weaken lake ice in the area'

The City's Water and Sewer Department is reporting this morning that a 16” water main has broken at Stanley St. near the entrance to Lee Park and the Chippewa Creek bridge.

The road has also been closed.

"This 16 inch water main break will affect water pressure in a large portion of the City for an extended period of time until the water main can be valved and isolated for repair," says Scott Taggart, Operations Manager.

CKAT reports officials as saying impacted areas include Pinewood, the centre core of the city and parts of the West Ferris area too.

Water from the 16 inch water main is currently flowing into Chippewa Creek and out into Lake Nipissing.

"This may weaken lake ice in the area. We ask that snowmobilers use caution in and around the outflow of Chippewa Creek in this area," warns Taggart.

Stanley St from Monk St to Memorial Drive will be closed for the duration.
