North Bay’s Warriors of Hope raced this past Saturday at the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival. Among the fifty four teams entered were four breast cancer survivor teams: Barrie, Ottawa, Toronto and North Bay. The weather was perfect for racing with a slight tail wind over the 400 meter course.

In the Survivor’s race Toronto took first place finishing 2 seconds ahead of the Warriors who had a respectable time of 2.04, a time that would put them into the Silver division against mixed boats. The Warriors finished ahead of the Ottawa team who took gold at North Bay.

While just being able to race is winning, the big winners for the Warriors this weekend were the North Bay Sledge team. Warriors collected over $600 for the Sledge team, who had the opportunity at our own festival to try paddling with the Warriors.

The final race for the season will be in Kingston on September 25th where the Warriors will be out for gold again. Practice continues for the team each Tuesday and Thursday on Trout Lake.
