Wallace Road will be closed between Lake Heights Road and Commerce Court for up to five weeks starting Monday.
Installation of a deep sanitary sewer will be done.
"The closure is required due to soil conditions encountered during the Wallace Road Sewage Pumping Station construction project, which recently got underway," says a news release.
"Due to the location of the closure, a detour is not feasible."
Motorists will need to use an alternative route while the work is completed.
Local access to properties and businesses within the closure will be provided. Access to properties north of the construction area will be available by way of Wickstead Avenue, while access to properties to the south of the construction area will be available by way of Seymour Street.
The contractor will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible, promises a City news release.
