The Powassan Voodoos added some experience to their young roster with the addition of 19-year-old defenceman Lucas de Caluwe, the club announced.

The 6’4” blueliner from Cambridge, Ontario was acquired for a development fee from the OJHL’s Niagara Falls Canucks.

Last season de Caluwe netted 2 goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 52 games with the Canucks.

“The Voodoos have a great reputation as an organization,” said de Caluwe, who turns 20 in November.

“I am excited about what I can bring as a veteran to the back end. I like the small town support and connection in Powassan.”

Peter Goulet, Voodoos' head coach, was also thrilled to be able to bring de Caluwe to Powassan.

“Lucas brings size, speed, and more than 75 games of junior ‘A’ experience from the OJHL,” noted Goulet.

de Caluwe and the Voodoos are back in action Friday when they travel to Noelville to face the French River Rapids. Then the Voodoos return to Powassan for the Voodoos' only pre-season home contest against the Rapids on Saturday, September 7 at the Powassan Sportsplex. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
