Nipissing West OPP are reporting an unusual traffic hazard on Highway 64.

Last night around 11:18 p.m. OPP responded to a collision on Highway 64 in West Nipissing.

A vehicle had struck a bison that had escaped from a local farm. It is believed that seven more bison are still roaming the area.

There were no injuries in the accident.

"Bison are wild animals," says Constable Robert Lewis. "Even though they look docile, bison are dangerous, unpredictable, and may charge without warning."

The OPP are warning motorists who travel on Highway 64, between Field and Sturgeon Falls to use extreme caution and do not approach any of these animals.

Contact the Nipissing West OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122, if a Bison is seen on or near the highway.
