Vehicle goes through guard rail and plunges into Trout Lake (UPDATED)

'The driver was transported to the hospital but no serious injuries were reported'

Police say one person is injured after his vehicle went through guard rails and at least 20 feet off shore into Trout Lake.

Police responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night and clean-up at the scene began around 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Police, EMS, and Fire crews were on the scene this morning for the accident that took place near the T-intersection of Lees Road and Trout Lake Road.

"The male driver was transported to the hospital but no serious injuries were reported," stated David Woolley, Director of Corporate Communications with the North Bay Police Service.

Police believe the vehicle was coming down hilly Lees Road. No braking skid marks could be noticed near the accident scene.

"It appears the vehicle was travelling down Lees Road crossed Trout Lake and entered the water," added Inspector Jeff Warner, from the North Bay Police Service.

Police say the impact of the collision damaged the windows of the vehicle when it hit the water which allowed the lone male occupant of the vehicle to get to shore.

"The investigation is still ongoing so we are not sure of the circumstances behind the vehicle entering the water. There is a tow recovery company on the scene trying to recover the vehicle," said Warner.

"The water is quite deep there and there is a bit of contamination from the vehicle's fuel and oil so they have set up some booms to try to contain that contamination."

The vehicle is submerged in Trout Lake. Pieces of the bumper can be found near the shoreline.  Police say the tow crews could have the submerged vehicle out of the lake by this afternoon.
