You can no longer request an MVC report from your local police service.

The province has changed how Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) reports are accessed. Individuals can no longer request an MVC report from their local police service and are now only available directly from Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO).

As of January 29, Motor Vehicle Collision reports can only be requested directly from Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation via their website or by mail. Previously, MVC reports could be requested from the North Bay Police Service, but, as a result of recent changes by the province, NBPS will no longer be able to provide these reports directly.

Requesting an MVC report will cost $12 for an uncertified report (which will meet most needs of individuals involved in an accident) or $18 for a certified report (usually required only for legal reasons). Payment must be made to MTO.

In most instances, an insurance company will only require a police incident number related to the accident, not a full MVC report. A police incident number will be provided to the parties involved in an accident by the responding officer when the accident is reported. If you lose your police incident number or did not receive one and your accident occurred within the City of North Bay, you can contact the North Bay Police Service and we will provide the number upon request. There is no cost associated with receiving a police incident number.

MVC reports are available between 20-30 days after an accident occurred. Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation advises that you should wait between four to six weeks before ordering an MVC report online, as you will be required to pay the $12 or $18 fee even if no report is found on their system.

Before ordering a report, you should ensure you have:

  • The date of the accident
  • The driver’s licence number or accident report number (also known as the police incident number)
  • Plate number(s) and accident location, if available

Requests for an MVC report can be made via the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) website at this link: www.ontario.ca/page/get-accident-report-vehicle-collision

Requests can also be made via mail to Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation, full details are on their website.
