Two young North Bay men face multiple charges after students were robbed at knifepoint during a prom party yesterday.
It happened between the evening of Tuesday and Wednesday as student graduates from a local secondary school were celebrating at an after-prom party in a field off the corner of Four Mile Lake Road and Highway 63.
Police say the robbers, who are not members of the graduating class and were not invited, arrived and robbed two students at knifepoint. Cash and alcohol were stolen from the victims.
North Bay Police arrested and charged two men.
Riley Rose, age 20, of North Bay, was charged with:
- Two counts of robbery with a weapon;
- One count of theft under $5,000;
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
- One count of uttering threats.
Shane William Hughes, age 19, of North Bay, was charged with:
- Two counts of robbery with a weapon;
- One count of theft under $5,000;
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
- One count of breach of recognizance.
Police seized a flick knife from one of the robbers which had been used as a threat to harm a third male victim.
Prior to this incident, the victims, who were not injured, did not know the two accused.
Rose and Hughes were held in custody for bail hearings.
